This is one of the most common questions coming from trainees. Getting ripped Abs is mainly a problem of fat reduction. Everybody have a nice set of six pack, even big, fat guys. The reason that you cannot see them is because they are covered by a thick layer of fat. So the Abs problem is mainly a fat loss problem in most of the cases. Even if you do 1000 crunches a day you will still not be able to see your Abs if they are covered with fat. So the first thing, that need to be done is to start burning fat by reducing your calories and exercising the right way. Another thing that need to be made clear is that you cannot burn fat locally. This is a popular myth, that has it's origins to the TV commercials, of various gadgets that claim that will train your Abs and burn the fat around them while seating on the couch. This cannot be done. You have to sweat to get results and there is not local fat burning. So stop looking for shortcuts. Only by training hard and adjusting your nutrition you will stimulate your metabolism and you will start burning fat. You will find a lot of metabolic fat burning programs in other articles. One thing that needs to be highlighted here is that most classic exercises for the midsection, like crunches do not consume much energy and they are not suitable for a metabolic workout. We should look at our Abs training more as midsection or torso training. So instead of just targeting the rectus abdominous, try to focus on strengthening your entire core. A very good exercise for this purpose is the Turkish get up. It is a full body exercise and it will train your entire midsection to the seventh power. More over it will also train your shoulder in various angles. In any case you should try to develop the mentality of the athlete even if you are not one. This means that we should train to become strong and healthy and have a functional body that will serve us for many years. Training focusing only to your appearance will do you no good. Appearance is a by-product of good training. So try to create good habits, train with intensity and dedication, and follow a healthy eating plan. You will get strong and healthy and on top of that your Abs and your whole body will eventually look better. You will find many information, exercises and programs on the Core section of the site. There you will read many articles on how to train for a strong torso and core and how to get the elusive six pack. |
