300 Spartan training

All of us that saw the movie 300 were impressed by the physique of the actors that participated in it.
The coach responsible for the actors training was Mark Twight of Gym Jones.
It is interesting to know that the workout that was used to get the actors in shape for the movie was not a traditional bodybuilding approach.
Instead they used a combination of proper nutrition and total body training to develop the "chiseled" 300 look.

The idea of Coach Twight was that "appearance is a consequence of fitness".

In other words in order to create a look that epitomized true Spartan warrior one should train to create a truly "Functional" physique that can really perform and fight. To look like a warrior you have to train your body to be a warrior. This means a body striped from fat, and a metabolism that will turn you to human inferno.
And the best way to do that is to use an athletic program as opposed to an aesthetically driven only program.

So in this workout series we will cover these very effective workouts that can be done everywhere and will literally transform your body

30 pull ups
30 ring push ups

30 Dive bomber push ups
30 bodyweight rows

30 single leg squats (15 per leg)
30 V- ups

30 Jumping squats
30 Russian twist sit ups

30 explosive lunges
30 barpees with push ups

Total 300 reps.

Do the exercise in pairs. For example do 10 pull ups then 10 ring push ups then agin 10 pull ups etc until you complete all 30 reps in both exercises then move to the next pair.
Try to complete all exercises in less that 40 minutes. If you managed to completed in less than 30 minutes you will be a true Spartan.

In future articles we will cover other Spartan training programs done with bodyweight kettlebell an free weights.

So if someone tries to convince you that a gym membership is mandatory if you want to train effectively, just give him to try one of the above programs that do not require any special equipment and can be done at home. Then like a true Spartan, without saying anything, step aside and let him draw his own conclusions.
